Substrata Series explores layered surfaces shaped by flow, rupture, and material tension.
Inspired by geological formations and aerial landscapes, each piece emerges through a process of construction and disruption.
What appears is not fully planned, but revealed a surface where underlying structures become visible.
Her practice focuses on natural systems, erosion, flow, sedimentation, translating them into abstract compositions.
Rather than representing landscapes, her work captures their internal logic: tension, movement, and the interaction between elements. Each piece reflects a balance between structure and organic transformation.

Each work is created using mixed media including acrylic, pigments, sand, and mineral materials.
Through layering, erosion, and removal, surfaces are built and partially broken down to reveal depth and contrast.
This process creates a dialogue between smooth and textured areas, control and unpredictability, where the material actively shapes the final result.
Sarah Bontempo is a contemporary artist based in Barcelona.
Her work explores surface, material, and transformation through layered compositions inspired by geological landscapes and aerial views.
Working intuitively, she builds, alters, and disrupts each piece, allowing structure to emerge from process rather than control.

A curated selection of available works from current series.
Each piece is one of a kind, built through layers of material, texture, and transformation.
