APPROACH

I approach painting as construction.
Surface, structure, material, and support exist in direct dialogue.
Working with panels, layered materials, and exposed edges,
my practice explores tension, balance, and physical presence through restraint and repetition.

TECHNIQUE

Working with acrylic, pigments, sand, and mineral materials,
I treat matter as an active element within the work.
Surfaces emerge through resistance, accumulation, and physical transformation.
The work exists between painting, object, and architectural presence, where balance, accumulation,
and physical clarity become forms of control.

ABOUT

Sarah Bontempo is a French artist living and working in Barcelona, where she has been based for the past eight years.Her practice explores structure, materiality, and perception through contemporary panel-based works. Driven by a deep fascination with the human mind and visual languages, she develops compositions where order becomes both a formal language and a personal necessity.She chooses to work through structure, restraint, and controlled surfaces. Her practice stems from a need to move against inner chaos — not by expressing it directly, but by constructing spaces where it can no longer dominate.Through repetition, balance, texture, and reduction, she creates works that exist between emotion and control. Highly sensitive and deeply passionate, she approaches painting as a process of transformation, seeking clarity within complexity and stillness within tension.Her work reflects an ongoing dialogue between intuition and discipline, resulting in minimalist compositions that invite contemplation and quiet engagement.
